When winter arrives in Chile, apples are everywhere, and one of the coziest ways to enjoy them is this grated apple dessert with condensed milk. It is a staple in Chilean homes because it is quick, easy, and the perfect way to use up apples that have become a bit mealy or soft.
This dessert is a favorite for both kids and adults because of its sweet, soft texture and the energy boost it provides on a cold day. My best tip is to sauté the apples in butter immediately after grating them to prevent browning, and when you top it with meringue, leave plenty of peaks—those little ridges get deliciously chewy when they turn golden in the oven.
